Time Difference

The United Kingdom is five hours ahead of Antigua where they currently observe Atlantic Standard Time (AST) all year. Daylight Saving Time has never been used here and the clocks do not change in Antigua.

Money

The currency of Antigua is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, but US dollars are widely accepted on the island. Although, you will usually be given change in EC dollars and at a less favourable exchange rate. Credit cards are widely accepted here, and ATMs can be found throughout. Alternatively, banks are open usually from 8am to 2pm, Monday to Thursday and 8am to 4pm on Friday. The Bank of Antigua is also open Saturday 8am to 12noon.

Electricity

Antigua operates on a 230V supply voltage and there are two associated plug types, types A and B. Plug type A is the plug which has two flat parallel pins and plug type B is the plug which has two flat parallel pins and a grounding pin meaning you will need a plug adapter when travelling from the UK.

Shops and Amenities

Shops are generally open from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, with supermarkets opening from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday and all-day Sunday too.

The leading daily newspaper is the Antigua Observer, providing the latest news and information about travel, entertainment, sports, jobs, lifestyles, business, and much more. As for television, Antigua enjoys countless channels covering everything from news to sport.

Post Offices are open from 8.15am to 12pm and 1pm to 3.30pm on weekdays, except on Friday, when closing hour extends to 4pm, with Saturday 9am to 12pm
