A small village located in southern Iceland, Skogar is known for its natural beauty and rich history. It is surrounded by natural attractions like the Skógafoss waterfall, which the village sits at the foot of, as well as glaciers, mountains and the country’s iconic black sand beaches. One of the most popular attractions in Skogar is the Skógafoss waterfall, one of the largest and most famous waterfalls in Iceland. Watch in awe as water plummets from the cliffs above and creates a mist so enchanting that there is always at least one rainbow present at any time. If you’re after a panoramic view,
Skógafoss has a staircase for you to walk to the top of to admire the view beside nesting seabirds. Skogar is also home to the Skogar Folk Museum, which showcases Iceland's cultural and historical heritage. Featuring collections of artefacts and exhibits that offer insight into the daily lives and customs of Icelanders throughout history, you’ll have the chance to get to grips with traditional clothing, tools and household items from the ages. In addition to its natural and cultural attractions, Skogar offers a range of outdoor activities, including hiking along scenic trails, galloping on horseback across black sand beaches and visiting cool (in every sense of the word) glaciers on private tours. Skogar is also a popular stop on the Laugavegur hiking trail, which runs from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork, and is considered one of the best hiking trails in the world.
