This open-air museum and zoological park, located just outside of Stockholm, is one of the oldest and largest in the world, and showcases the traditional way of life in 16th to 20th century Sweden. Skansen offers visitors a unique cultural and historical experience and consists of hundreds of reconstructed buildings that make up a small, village-like setting of old farmhouses, cottages, churches and schools. Visitors can stroll through the settlement or wander the zoological park, home to a variety of Scandinavian animals — such as brown bears, moose, lynxes, wolverines, seals and otters — and learn
more about them through interactive exhibits and guided tours. On summer evenings, you can even watch the museum’s staff (kitted out in traditional period dress) demonstrate Swedish folk dancing. Skansen is a fascinating attraction that offers a glimpse into five centuries of Sweden’s rich history and culture, and promises a memorable experience to all who visit. Whether you’re interested in history, culture, or wildlife, this ‘Sweden in miniature’ is a must-visit for anyone near Stockholm.
