The hottest date in the British calendar takes place tomorrow, with glamorous American actress Meghan Markle marrying HRH Prince Harry. The bets are on over what she will wear, who will walk her down the aisle and whether Elton John is really playing at the reception. Whether you are in Windsor or London for the event or thinking about visiting the UK during the summer - read on for our favourite royal themed experiences.
Rumours are swirling that it is Ralph & Russo who have designed Meghan's dress which is said to be heavily beaded and intricate. Until Saturday we can't guarantee this… but what we can guarantee is to make you feel like a princess with our personal shopping experiences. We can arrange pre-opening appointments at designers including Ralph & Russo for a truly VIP experience tailored completely to your interests and style. For the gents, we can also organise behind-the-scenes tours of Gieves & Hawkes tailors, the Royal Warrant holders who create some of the finest suits and military garments in the world. Perfect for picking up a lovely wedding guest outfit!
Windsor Castle is the largest and oldest inhabited castle in the world. It has been a Royal home and fortress for over 900 years and still remains a working Palace today. The magnificent State Apartments are decorated with some of the finest works of art in the Royal Collection and look out onto beautiful gardens and picturesque English countryside. Visit the castle and St George's Chapel with one of our expert guides for an in-depth tour before recreating the wedding procession, with a special carriage ride down Long Walk. The castle is less than an hour from London so it is easily combined with Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace, which are also 'must sees.' We can arrange a pre-opening tour of the latter, which will become the newlyweds first home. Take a look out our Royal Itinerary for more inspiration.
The wedding cake has been confirmed as a 'non-traditional' elderflower & lemon cake made by Claire Ptak who owns the trendy Violet Bakery in East London. We can include a visit to this lovely confectioner in our London itineraries, for a taste of her delicious treats. Combine this with one of our favourite foodie tours of the city - a walking tour of beautiful Belgravia with a cordon bleu trained pastry chef as your guide. Wander through the streets and visit independent stores and delis, such as a British chocolate café, an authentic Sardinian gelateria, a visit to 'the picasso of pastry' or a cute éclair shop where the chouquettes have been perfected by a three star Michelin chef. A truly indulgent tour for anyone with a sweet tooth!
Two hundred guests will be treated to a wedding reception at nearby Frogmore House, which was also the venue of choice for the couple's engagement photos. Word on the grapevine is that Elton John and Ed Sheeran may both play during the evening. Frogmore House is open to the public during August and we can arrange guided tours for further insight to this special day. Make like Meghan and Harry and stay in the beautiful hotels Cliveden House and Coworth Park which is where the couple are staying the night before the wedding.
