Whether your idea of romance is hiking to a beautiful vista, curling up in front of a fire or exploring the stories behind a historic castle, the UK is not short of romantic spots to spend with your loved one. Here are a selection of our favourite romantic spots across the British Isles:
Durdle Door, is one of England's most iconic landscapes. Enjoy a blustery picnic and a cliff top walk as you take in the beautiful vistas of the Jurassic coast's arches. See if you can find a private cove to sit and relax during your day trip. The beautiful Chewton Glen hotel is only an hour's drive from Durdle Door and a private tree house is a pretty dreamy place to lay your head!
The Roman(tic) City of Bath
What could be more romantic than a private tour and glass of bubbles at the Roman Baths? Enjoy the ancient bathhouse under twinkling lights and a dusky sky as you explore the exhibitions without the crowds. Combine with a day wandering through the Georgian streets nipping into the many antique stores and trendy design shops. We would recommend a stay at The Gainsborough Hotel, located just a stones throw from the Baths in the centre of town, it is the only hotel which has access to the thermal water springs in their spa.
A mystical place filled with tales of damsels in distress and knights in shining armour, Tintagel Castle is sure to get any history buff's hearts racing. Located in the beautiful region of Cornwall there are sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages nearby such as Padstow or Port Isaac and many outdoor activities to try your hand at - surfing, kayaking or biking along the camel trail. Hotel Endsleigh, an old hunting lodge nestled into acres of woodland and grottos is less than an hour's drive from the Castle.
Head to the centre of Ireland, to the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains where you will find the 'jewel in the crown' of Irish hotels. Ballyfin's service and attention to detail is like no other. The painstaking restoration of the Georgian mansion can be seen in every part of the hotel and with only 15 rooms you are sure to relish in some serious relaxation. Enjoy a picnic in the grounds or take a boat out onto the lake (poetry optional…)
Explore the historic city of Edinburgh on a romantic weekend break. Views from Arthur's Seat cover the whole of the city if you're up for a hike. If you'd rather not spend your weekend in the brisk outdoors then explore the ancient castle and or let us arrange a private after hour's tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia. We would recommend staying in The Balmoral for a traditional Scottish experience.
