Giant's Causeway

See The Giant's Causeway

Standing out of Northern Ireland's blustery and beautiful coastline is the Giant's Causeway. Legend has it that Irish giant Finn McCool (locally known as Fionn mac Cumhaill) tried to build a path across the sea, made of thousands of basalt columns, from Ireland to the Scottish island of Staffa. Science claims that this is the result of a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago, but surely these near-perfect hexagonal tubes, stacked next to each other like puzzle pieces, cannot merely be volcanic rock formations?
