With the Football World Cup football in full swing (#bringithome), the tennis at Wimbledon beginning yesterday, and the sun shining across the UK, we are feeling rather sporty here at OTUK. And whilst watching matches on the television with a nice cup of tea is always fun, nothing beats being part of the action, which got us thinking about great sporting events happening this summer across the UK & Ireland...
Wimbledon is the home of British Tennis and also the world's oldest and most famous lawn tennis tournament. This quintessentially British experience is a must see for any clients in London in July (2nd - 15th) and we still have debenture seats available to some of the best matches. We can organise all aspects of your trip, including drivers to whisk you smoothly to and from the tournament, leaving you only to worry about who will win the grand slam. Taking place on the 1st of September the Braemar Gathering is a spectacle of traditional Highland Games including piping, highland dancing, tug of war and games to show off strength such as caber tossing. These games have been occurring since the 18th century and have had many royal fans including Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth who has attend on many occasions. There are limited tickets still available and we can arrange a full itinerary, such as our family friendly itinerary, to include the highland games.
Irish Horse Racing
The Darley Irish Oaks is one of the highlights of the Irish horse racing calendar, taking place on the third weekend of July. We can arrange a full weekend of horse racing experiences including a visit to the famous Irish National Stud, their top stallions and foals as well as retired champions in their beautiful kept surroundings. We can also include a visit to the stables of a leading flat trainer where you can get the inside track on the runners before your afternoon at the races.
If you prefer horsepower to horses, Goodwood revival takes place 7th - 9th September, which recreates the magic of the circuit through the era of 1940's-60s With period dress the fashion of choice at the event, you will feel like you have stepped back in time as you watch one of the biggest historic motorsports events in the world. We can arrange hospitality at the event as well as nearby hotels for a weekend to remember!
The 147th Open takes place this year at Carnoustie, on 15th - 22nd July. Let us arrange hospitality to this magnificent golfing event along with a local driver-guide, perhaps even a whisky connoisseur to be on hand to transfer you to and from the golf before exploring the nearby areas including St Andrew's known as the home of Golf, or Speyside's multiple distilleries.
