Where to Stay around Lake Titicaca

Where to Stay around Lake Titicaca

Isla Suasi

Situated on the only private island in Lake Titicaca, this solar-powered lodge has admirable ecological credentials.

Featuring panoramic lake views from every room, surrounded by terraced gardens and designed with native materials stone, adobe and thatch to blend into the island, the lodge is committed to being green.

Although there is no electricity, open fires in each room and hot water bottles and thick duvets keep guests warm.

Spot rare vicuñas, hike to Itapilluni Hill to see the spectacular high-altitude sunsets, paddle a canoe around the island, or visit the spa for massages and steam saunas with eucalyptus leaves. A walk with an island guide will introduce something of the wildlife and environment of this high altitude region.

With well-appointed but appealingly rustic rooms, a candlelit gourmet restaurant, bar and game room, the lodge is the perfect place to relax.

Why We Love It

A $12 fee per guest to enter Suasi (included in the room charge) helps fund conservation projects on the island and in the vicinity.

Casa Andina Private Collection Puno

This hotel boasts one of the most privileged locations in Puno, just in front of Lake Titicaca with uninterrupted views across the waters.

The hotel's restaurant, as well as almost every room, offers stunning views of the lake, especially at dawn.

A large, sunny terrace invites guests to contemplate Lake Titicaca's seemingly endless expanse and the gourmet restaurant - probably the best in Puno - has glass walls to show off the panoramic views, and features local lake fish and Andean specialties.

The hotel is designed to reflect its altiplano location. It is built with rustic local materials, including stone, wood and clay tiles, while stone fireplaces warm the lobby lounge and restaurant.

Ideal for excursions around the area, the Casa Andina has its own private pier for boat trips to Suasi and the lake's other islands, and a private train station stop for the journey to and from Cusco.

Why We Love It

At 3800m above sea level, Puno is at a higher altitude than Cusco, and so the hotel provide oxygen in rooms on request.

Hotel Libertador Puno

Located on Esteves Island on the shores of Lake Titicaca, ideally located for views and exploring the region.

Hotel facilities include a restaurant, bar, gym, Jacuzzi, and private dock for boat trips out across the highest navigable lake in the world.

Why We Love It

Despite the property being rather modern and lacking in character, the service and food is very good.
