Sazagua is located in the heart of the coffee region in the Central Andes, and one of the best boutique hotels in this region of Colombia.
There are just 10 suites at Sazagua, including a slightly larger junior suite, and all are decked out with local Colombian furniture and art with dark wood and bright tapestry throws. There is a certain rustic charm throughout without compromising on luxury - for example, all of the rooms have Wi-Fi and tellies.
The restaurant serves delicious food, which is at once contemporary and homely. Regional specialities are combined with international and innovative touches to create spectacular food.
Located on the outskirts of Pereira, Sazagua is half way between the Cocora Valley and the main coffee plantations around Chinchiná, so guests are right in the middle of the action. Explore the plantations and learn about how coffee is made, all the while sampling some of the world's best black stuff, of course. There are also other activities available in the area, such as rafting, horse riding, visiting the botanical gardens, and of course Los Nevados National Park, which is dominated by the 16,000ft volcano Nevado del Ruiz.
The hotel also has a spa, so after a day sampling coffee and discovering how it is made, guests can return to Sazagua and indulge in a massage, soak in the Jacuzzi or take a dip in the pool.
The name Sazagua pays homage to the Quimbayas, an indigenous civilisation that inhabited this region during antiquity.
