Colombia Holidays: An Overview

After a rocky few years, Colombia is once more back on top of our list as one of South America's most vibrant countries and best spots for a luxury holiday. We've fallen head-over-heels of the country's Pacific and Caribbean coastlines, and everything in the middle, and confidently predict that its popularity will soar over the next few years, especially as Colombia is a shining example of a country that, through sheer force of collective will, has undergone a complete makeover. The country is well summed up by the local saying, 'the only risk is wanting to stay.'

There truly is something for everyone on a luxury holiday to Colombia, from epic scenery to vibrant culture and soaring Andean ranges. Our Latin America team have sniffed out the best coffee plantations and selflessly tested the best beaches on the Caribbean coastline - it's a tough job, but they have valiantly taken it on the chin and can put together truly wonderful luxury breaks encompassing the country in a nutshell or really getting under Colombia's fascinating skin. In the space of a week or two, a varied trip could take in one of several attractive boutique hotels in colonial Cartagena, the pristine Tayrona National Park and a few days soaking up the good life on one Colombia's Caribbean islands.

There is no shortage of adventure in Colombia, from white water rafting on the Magdalena Gorge to paragliding in San Gil and exploring the country's Colonial and pre-Colombian (as in, Christopher) history. Some of our favourite spots include the capital city of Bogota, where there is a wonderful contrast between the cobbled streets of the old town and the modern bars, shops and hotels of the Zona Rosa and the colourful city of Cartagena, arguably one of the most photogenic cities in South America. The rolling green hills of the coffee triangle are a wonderful relief from the hustle and bustle of Colombia's cities and coastlines, and makes a wonderful addition to any luxury Colombian holiday.
