Driving Safari

After seeing the sites of Amman, explore the King's Highway with a knowledgeable driver or guide.

Look down across the Dead Sea from Jordan towards Jerusalem, where the golden Dome of the Rock glistens in the distance.

Also on route to Petra and Wadi Rum is the supposed baptism site of Jesus Christ, marked with a small church on the banks of the River Jordan.

Elsewhere the stunning mosaic map of the Middle East on a church floor in Madaba dates from the 6th Century AD and is definitely worth a visit.

Why We Love It

Take in a number of historic sites including Mount Nebo, believed to be the last resting place of Moses.

Floating on the Dead Sea

The lowest point on Earth lies at 1,200 feet below sea level, where the Jordan River empties into the Dead Sea.

Because of the extreme salinity of the water (which means nothing can live here - hence the name) it is possible to experience the peculiar sensation of floating on the surface.
