Stretching from the south of France to Tuscany, right the way along the Genoese Gulf, the Italian Riviera is la dolce vita incarnate. The charms of this sliver of paradise are plentiful: waterside villages, secluded coves, ancient olive groves, opulent palaces… the list goes on. Life here is lived leisurely, romantically and always indulgently, making it the perfect place for a getaway for two.

Your address:

Your home for the next three nights is an elegant 19th-century villa located in Paraggi, one of the most exclusive bays on the Italian Riviera. The hotel is surrounded by a fragrant Mediterranean garden and, beyond, a tranquil beach lined with plush sun loungers.
The staff are friendly and welcoming, taking pride in the values of good old-fashioned Italian hospitality seriously. There are just a few rooms in the villa, each of which is elegantly designed with warm colours and beautiful fabrics.

Your Agenda:

It goes without saying that there is plenty to see and do on the Italian Riviera. The picturesque fishing town of Portofino, with its classic pastel-coloured houses and luxurious bay, is just a few miles away. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to hop onto a private boat to embark on a sailing trip around the Portofino marine park. You can admire a castle and lighthouse before visiting a Benedictine abbey and a church that dates back a thousand years. You’ll then discover fishermen's houses, the Tower of the Doria and the Gulf of Paradiso, home to the picturesque village of Camogli. You’ll have a hire car at your disposal for the duration of your trip, which makes it possible to explore every nook and cranny of this coastline freely. Finally, our clued-up local Concierge will be on hand to help organise any additional activities.

HIKING IN THE PORTOFINO NATIONAL PARK

Covering an area of 1,500 hectares and with over 50 miles of well-marked trails, the Portofino Park is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. Head off into the heart of the park in the company of a knowledgeable local guide. With the exception of a steep initial climb, the majority of this scenic 3.7-mile route is fairly easy. Along the way you can admire this relatively wild natural environment, which is made up of magnificent landscapes, steep cliffs, seaside villages and traditional hamlets rich in art and history.

WITH A FEW EXTRA DAYS… GENOA

Italy's largest port city, Genoa, is one of the Riviera’s best-kept secrets. The city is divided between a characterful old town and a seafront featuring cutting-edge contemporary architecture. In the historic centre, you can admire the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, with its elegant façade streaked with white and black stripes; the Romanesque churches adorned with polyptychs; the delightful Piazza San Matteo; and the sumptuous palaces on Via Garibaldi, most notably those of the Rolli family. Other things to see and do in Genoa include photographing the neo-classic facades of the new town, sampling Genoese minestrone, touring Christopher Columbus's house and indulging in local delicacies at the city’s many exquisite restaurants.
