From chilling beachside in a luxurious boutique hotel, to marvelling at the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, and heading into the bustling souqs of Marrakech, Morocco makes a great varied honeymoon destination, and is just a four-hour flight away from the UK.

Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

International Flight

The holiday begins as you board a short international flight from the UK to Marrakech. There are several indirect flights but the direct flights from London take roughly three and a half hours. On arrival you'll find your driver waiting to take you three hours west to Oualidia and the coast. Once you arrive, settle into your hotel and go for a stroll along the harbour to admire the ocean views before dinner.

DAY 2

Oualidia

Today is yours to explore Oualidia, so relax and ease into the honeymoon spirit as the town's quaint charm seduces you. Chill out on your terrace or by the pool while enjoying the mesmerising views, or get active with an array of beach activities to choose from such as surfing, kayaking, and windsurfing, which are all good in this area.

DAY 3

On the lagoon in Oualidia

This is your last day in Oualidia so make the most of the water and take a boat trip around the lagoon for spectacular views. The lagoon is renowned for its flamingos and oyster beds so make sure you sample some of the local delicacy (the oysters, not the flamingos) for lunch afterwards. As the afternoon draws in and you've eaten your fill of oysters, why not retire to the spa and treat yourselves to a relaxing massage or session in the traditional hammam steam room.

DAY 4

To Marrakech

Say goodbye to the serenity of Oualidia this morning as you head back to the bustling streets of Marrakech instead. Your drive will take approximately three hours so sit back and enjoy the journey. When you arrive, settle into your riad - an elegant townhouse set around a courtyard - hotel and then opt to either enjoy dinner on the roof terrace, where you can observe the colourful chaos from above, or get stuck into the action with a wander through the medina alleys. Our detailed destination Dossier is full of recommendations of where to eat and enjoy a drink.

DAY 5

Markets galore

This morning is all about shopping, and so we begin with a side note here, to remind you that packing light on the way is always a good idea, as you'll undoubtedly pick up lots of treasures in the souqs to take home. The maze of colours and scents in the souqs will lure you in, so lose yourself in the alleyways and enjoy haggling and buying your way around the varying stalls selling everything from spices to rugs and trinkets to tea.

In the afternoon, meet one of our guides for a historic tour around the city, exploring some of the architecture and the history behind it. Highlights include the Koutoubia Mosque - the minaret of which is by far the tallest point in the medina and a useful reference point when you get lost. Other places you can visit include the 19th century Bahia Palace, the new Yves St Laurent Museum and the Lezama synagogue.

DAY 6

Cooking up a storm

Today you will learn the art of Moroccan cooking and will leave able - in theory, anyway - to serve up a tagine like a local. We know the very best cooking school in town and will pre-book the half day course. After mastering the art of perfectly spicing your dishes, tuck in for lunch and then enjoy a last leisurely afternoon in the city.

DAY 7

To the Mountains

Head for the hills this morning as your driver picks you up and you make the hour-long journey into the Atlas Mountains. Lush groves of walnut trees and snow-capped peaks contrast the red rocks here, and make for a very dramatic setting for your final stay of the honeymoon, in a charming and romantic mountain hotel.

DAY 8

Mountaineering

With the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains towering above you, you'll no doubt be itching to get out adventuring. We suggest you spend today trekking with an experienced guide through walnut groves and past Berber goatherds, taking in the incredible views down valleys dotted with tiny villages. For the really adventurous couples, why not opt to camp out in a traditional village for the night? Either way, your guide will be accompanied by a donkey who will carry your picnic and cushions, so you can enjoy lunch with a view on route.

DAYS 9 & 10

And relax

After hectic Marrakech and yesterday's trekking it's lucky the mountains are also an excellent place for relaxation. Spend the last two days of your honeymoon dipping in and out of the pool and enjoying the views from the grounds while sipping on mint tea. You'll also want to indulge in a series of treatments at the traditional spa, so that you finish the holiday feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated.

DAY 11

Home time

Sadly the honeymoon is drawing to a close and it'll be back to the reality after an hour's transfer back to Marrakech airport and then a less than four-hour international flight back to the UK.
