Family Vacations in the Snow

Skiing is one of the great family activities, but the snow has so much more to offer, from staying in ice hotels to dog sledding. We have selected our favourite family vacations in the snow, so from the ski slopes of Austria to meeting Father Christmas you are sure to have a brrrr-iliant time!

Do you live somewhere where the most your children will ever get to see of snow is by watching Frozen or seeing the odd fake-snow machine at Christmas? Then why not give them the ultimate snow experience and whisk them off to Swedish Lapland, where you and the children can go dogsledding with teams of adorable huskies through snow-clad forests; go snowmobiling; meet reindeer and stay overnight in an igloo or treehouse hotel.

Another of our favourite family vacations in the snow has to be the unmissable childhood experience of meeting Father Christmas, and Finland has corned the market in winter Father Christmas vacations. While some of the experiences out there may be a little mass market; we know how to do the whole thing so privately and so perfectly that we even had one eight-year-old 'non-believer' come back converted. We can also arrange to send the children's letters and presents in advance and even have an elf come to your door to hand deliver your invitation to Lapland.

When talking about vacations in the snow, we can't help but mention skiing, as we think that it could just be the perfect family vacation, and let us explain why: there's the combination of fresh mountain air and constant exercise that means there's almost no chance of hearing the dreaded words 'I'm bored' throughout the trip. This also means the kids are likely to sleep like logs the second their heads hit the pillow, so you can get some time to yourselves in the evening. And this all happens in the beauty of snow-capped mountains and (hopefully) bright blue skies. What's not to love?
