Bird Watching Holidays in Europe

Whether you’ve only recently discovered the joys of bird watching or are a true twitcher through and through, birdwatching holidays in Europe are a rare travel treat: the opportunity to slow down, immerse yourself in nature and marvel at some of the continent’s wildlife wonders.

For the serious bird watchers among us, Europe is home to some amazing spots. In Romania, witness huge concentrations of breeding birds and migrating flocks in the Danube Delta, a vast expanse of wetlands and waterways which is home to over 300 species including Europe's largest colony of Pelicans. Portugal is another great option with over 46 species to spot in Madeira - a remote volcanic outcrop south of Portugal - and some excellent sites in the beautiful Alentejo region.

If you're dipping your toes into bird watching for the first time, we can recommend some wonderful wildlife experiences to include in your trip. On a road trip through France, stop off at the Camargue wetlands to encounter colourful bird species - including purple herons and bee-eaters - en route to the beautiful French Riviera where we can arrange a cooking class with an expert chef and a day aboard a Mediterranean fishing boat.

Elsewhere in Europe, there's the Black River Valley in Sweden, not far from Stockholm, where you can see the great grey owl; the mountainous Sierra de Guara area in Spain which is home to a multitude of magical species; and Portugal's Faia Brava National Park where we can arrange for you to spend the morning in a vulture hide as part of a wildlife watching itinerary.
