Not only is Nicaragua the largest country in Central America, it’s also home to the largest lake in the region, Lake Nicaragua; the largest cathedral, found in the city of Leon; and the oldest colonial city in not just central, but all of the Americas - Granada. Away from the cities and lakes, the Pacific coast is well worth a visit for the fantastic surfing and much smaller crowds than many other beaches in the region. There are also volcanoes, mountains and rainforests with incredible biodiversity to be explored. Close to 20% of the country's territory is set aside as protected areas and like the rest of Central America, the country contains a disproportionate percentage of the world's biodiversity, making it a prime spot for wildlife lovers.

As the ‘land of lakes and volcanoes’ you can experience this country’s diverse landscapes by taking part in a number of adventurous activities. Embark on a kayaking excursion across Lake Nicaragua, wander through the tree-tops of Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve or dive into underwater caves. Relax with yoga classes, walks along the private beach at Morgan’s Rock or island hop between the Islets of Granada, an idyllic string of islands formed from the ash of the Mombacho Volcano more than 25,000 years ago.
