My Favourite Three Hotels From My Sri Lanka Honeymoon

After getting married earlier this year in March, my new hubby and I headed off to Sri lanka for the honeymoon of a lifetime. Here are my favourite three hotels from my Sri Lanka honeymoon ...

The Sun House: It has to make number one

Perched up on a mini hill in Galle on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, the Sun House is a quaint, rickety looking old colonial house oozing with charm and beautiful interior design. Our room was up on the first floor (the top!) and had awesome views over the canopy of jungle. OK, maybe not jungle, but lots of trees. We had a cosy living room, wispy four poster bed and the best bit; a bath out on the balcony that although we didn't actually get around to using, felt very romantic. The food was utterly delicious, you eat out on the fairy lit terrace and feel completely separate from all the other diners. We had a peak around a few other rooms and each designed with their own little character you could come back and stay over again and get a different experience.

Lavender House

Again, an old colonial house, this time perched up in the tea plantations right next to a working tea factory. The moment that I'll remember forever (test me in a few years) was watching the chefs walk down the dewy grass first thing in the morning with the outstretched garden leading to the pool and the valley of tea hills in the background. Parts of the inside were a little on the formal side for my liking but they willingly set out tables outside wherever we wanted to eat so we could spend as much of our time their taking in the jaw dropping vista.

Wild Grass

Nestled into the forest a short drive from Sigiriya was this relatively new nature resort, Wild Grass. There were only 7 villas when we stayed there, all scattered throughout the forest and so far from each other we hardly knew anyone else was there. Our room (or should I say two storey house) was wall to wall glass so when the curtains were open you felt like you were in the jungle (I'm a Londoner I can say stuff like that). Our alarm clock was a cacophony of bizarre bird and animal noises and every night after dinner we returned to a new work of art made out of leaves or hand towels on our bed! They also made me a birthday cake as a surprise which went down well as my new husband had forgotten my birthday... sob.
