It's safe to say that the 'wellness' trend has slightly taken over the world of late, and while we're certainly not opposed to a detox-style holiday, we're also partial to a slightly more indulgent one. In the spirit of inclusion, we say why not do both with a 'detox-retox' holiday? After a recent trip to Turkey in October for some late summer sun, our marketing guru Emily believes that the Aegean Coast might just be the perfect spot. Read on to discover why…

Avoid the Peak Summer Heat

During the summer months, temperatures along the Turkish coast can easily sit around the mid 30s, which for sun-worshippers may be the ultimate dream, but for others might sound like a sweaty nightmare. If you fall into the latter category, may I present Turkey in October. Expect more gentle temperatures sitting in the mid to late 20s - perfect for anyone wanting a slightly more active holiday spent exploring the area, as well as sufficient time soaking up the rays. The sheltered bay around Gocek (located only around 20 minutes from Dalaman airport) is much more predictable than further north, making it the perfect spot for some October sunshine.

Messing About in Boats

On my trip I spent time in the pretty harbour town of Gocek which is the ideal jumping-off point for a luxury gulet trip. Take it slow with a few days onboard spent exploring the surrounding islets or opt for a sunset boat tour for an evening on the water followed by a stay at D Resort Gocek. Whichever you choose, rest assured that there is as much time for detoxing (stopping off for regular swims) as there is for retoxing (sipping champagne while taking in the views over the ocean). Not a bad way to spend your holiday!

Oxygen Overloads

For some serious detoxing, head to Turkey's Datca Peninsula (a couple of hours west of Gocek) which is famed for having the third-highest level of oxygen in the world. Where better to go for a healing break than somewhere where just breathing the air will help restore you? I stayed at D Maris Bay which simply screams summer relaxation, with five different beaches to choose from including a 'Silence Beach' which does what it says on the tin - no screeching children here.

Seafood Meze Lunch Turkey Coast

Food, Glorious Food

Enough with the detox, it's retox time. The Turkish coast offers up some fantastic culinary options from tasty traditional dishes - such as lahmacun (a sort of thin pizza topped with minced meat and vegetables), menemen (Turkish eggs), kebabs or a delicious spread of meze plates - to fantastically fresh seafood straight from the Aegean Sea. At D Maris Bay you are truly spoilt for choice with fantastic restaurants to choose from including a branch of the Japanese restaurant chain, Zuma, and one of Insta-famous 'Salt Bae's' steak restaurants - Nusr-Et.
