Orpheus Island
Orpheus Island Resort is a secluded island hideaway, located amidst the magical waters of the Great Barrier Reef, accommodating just 28 guests.
The resorts Beachfront Rooms have natural décor and boast Coral Sea views, the Beachfront Villas (with two bedrooms) are perfect for families and groups whilst the South Suites have chic beachcomber interiors and sit just a stone's throw from the water's edge.
Dining at Orpheus changes daily and is dependent on the freshest ingredients available. Enjoy both continental and a la carte breakfasts, tapas-style lunches and degustation dinners (sample an array of the chef's dishes). For an extra special dining experience the resort offers 'Dining with the Tides' where guests enjoy a private dinner on the pier under a starlit sky.
For those after a little pampering the Gwandalan Day Spa offers an array of treatments that embrace the principles of modern and indigenous aromatherapy and touch therapy. Enjoy an outdoor massage under the palm trees to the gentle sound of the lapping ocean.
The fringing reef surrounding Orpheus offers a diverse range of marine life, as such diving and snorkeling should be on the cards. Other activities include a dinghy adventure to explore the local bays, sunset cruises onboard the Maree Ann or day trips to Hichinbrook Island (Australia's largest island National Park).

Following a fishing expedition, guests can bring their catch of the day to the chef who will prepare and serve it at dinner.
Hayman Island
Hayman Island offers the ultimate Whitsunday experience for all tastes and ages, while focusing on the importance of preserving the spectacular Great Barrier Reef.
There is a large choice of accommodation at Hayman Island, ranging from rooms to suites to penthouses, all with a private terrace or balcony. Some rooms provide a butler service and a concierge service is available to all, and all rooms have a private pool or direct access to the main pool at the very least. Each penthouse is unique - one has even been designed by Diane von Furstenburg and comes complete with a four-poster bed.
Dining options are equally numerous, with food from around the world served in various environments, from more formal restaurants to casual bars and a beach pavilion. Gourmet food can be served anywhere on the island, anytime, and chefs' events provide the opportunity to learn about food pairing and themes.
Activities include water sports, scenic flights, fishing, diving and hiking, and there is a 9-hole putting green and a driving range. For those wanting to relax, the spa is fantastic and has a wide range of treatments. Children are also kept well entertained and the kids club's series of 'learn to' experiences cater for those with a thirst for knowledge.
Why We Love It
The Air Whitsunday Reef Adventure is one of our favourite activities, and is well worth the 40 minute sea plane trip to Hardy's Reef. The suspended coral lagoon is home to giant clams, reef sharks, coral cod and sea turtles, to name but a few.
Spicers Peak Lodge
Located on a 9,000 acre cattle station in Queensland's Scenic Rim, with views over the Main Range National Park and the Great Dividing Range, and near to the Granite Belt wine region, Spicers Peak Lodge has a pretty enviable position.
There are just ten suites and two private lodges at Spicers Peak Lodge, all designed to blend seamlessly in with the surroundings without compromising on luxury. Muted tones mix with fireplaces in some rooms, while the Spa Suites also have spa baths. For ultimate privacy however opt for one of the private lodges that are hidden amongst the eucalyptus trees with spectacular views across the valley.
The Peak restaurant is fantastic, made even more so due to its great position with wonderful mountain views. Most of the food is made from local produce, and at supper we recommend the infamous seven course degustation menu. Close to the Granite Belt region, the wine is (unsurprisingly) delicious. Having washed down your seven courses with the perfectly paired wine, explore the region it came from. There are over 40 vineyards in the nearby Granite Belt, so more than enough choice for even the most discerning connoisseur.
After indulging at the peak restaurant - it's hard not to - walk off the calories on guided bush walks, or go mountain biking, riding and fishing. Alternatively, for simple r n' r head to the newly built spa, or relax by the infinity pool.

Spicers Peak Lodge is the highest non-alpine lodge in the whole of Australia.
Wilson Island
Wilson Island is a private and exclusive island located just above the Tropic of Capricorn on the Great Barrier Reef.
The World Heritage site offers a private tropical haven for a maximum of twelve guests, and accommodation is comprised of six safari style tents complete with private shower, deck and hammock.
There is a gazebo for daytime lounging, with books and binoculars to look at the panoramic views, and look out spots are dotted around the island. Other activities include watching Green and Loggerhead turtles nest and hatch, whale watching and snorkelling.
After a day of seclusion, guests can socialise in the Longhouse where meals are served en famille. The sand floor and candles add to the relaxed atmosphere, and menus rely on fresh seafood and local fruit, accompanied by plenty of Australian beers and wine.
Why We Love It
If we had to be shipwrecked anywhere, this would be very high on the list.
