Swedish Lapland is one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, the extraordinary natural light show that occurs in the depths of winter. Shimmering bands of colour drift across the night sky as particles hit the Earth's atmosphere, creating waves of green and red. While the light show can be seen from anywhere around and within the Arctic Circle, places with little or no light pollution – such as Swedish Lapland – are great places to see the action. Please note that there is, of course, no guarantee of seeing the Northern Lights since it is a natural phenomenon and there can also be cloud cover,
but the months of February and March are generally considered to be the optimum time to see them.
